Healthcare environmental due diligence: historic wildcatting leaves former oil well in path of hospital expansion.

Modern Geosciences was engaged to complete traditional environmental due diligence as part of loan requirements for this expanding hospital. As part of the effort, a historic wildcatter’s oil well record was noted to be on the planned redevelopment property. Based on the time period of installation, mud pits often contain impact from heavy metals, naturally-occurring radioactive material, and petroleum additives. Using historical records and a gamma radiation detector, the former pit was identified and petroleum impact was noted above residential criteria. The impact was delineated and source removed to allow the site to obtain regulatory closure and redevelopment to begin.
